Job summary

Linamar Corporation is seeking an Electrician to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical equipment and controls at our Ontario facility. The role involves reading architectural drawings and electrical code specifications and performing preventive maintenance as needed.

The Electrician will oversee inspections, interpret codes, install and repair wiring, test circuits and collaborate with plant services.

Qualifications

  • Technical school training and apprenticeship completion.
  • Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A).
  • Ability to read drawings and electrical code specifications.
  • Experience with testing electrical equipment and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee inspections to ensure compliance with Ontario Electrical Standards Act.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of installations.
  • Install, examine, replace or repair wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, lighting and other components as needed.
  • Test electrical equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Coordinate with plant services and contractors as required.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Electrical Apprentices.

Ensure proper functioning and illumination of electrical equipment. Work on equipment such as electrical transmission lines, motors, generators, distribution and plant equipment. May conduct preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibility
  • Oversee required inspections of electrical systems to ensure compliance with Ontario Electrical Standards Act.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components as needed.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Update and log electrical changes.
  • Maintain needed spares and purchase material in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Evaluate power required for new equipment and connect to the Ontario Electrical Code.
  • Complete interface to CNC equipment.
  • Coordinate with all plant services and contractors as required.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Electrical Apprentices.
Academic/Educational Requirements
  • Technical school training and has completed the apprenticeship program.
  • Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A).
Required Skills/Experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment
  • Ability to understand and comply with the Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of phone systems, network cabling, security systems, door access systems and video surveillance systems is an asset.
