Job summary

IMT Group in Calgary is seeking a skilled electrician to read and interpret plans, install and repair electrical systems in industrial machinery, and ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code and local bylaws.

This permanent, full-time role offers opportunities to progress toward a Master Electrician, with a Monday-Thursday night shift and a focus on safety, accuracy, and on-time project completion.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets plans created by the Master Electrician.
• Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
• Conscientious, with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure of absolute deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit
• Pulls wiring through conduit
• Splices wires by stripping insulation and joining conductors
• Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
• Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels
• Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads
• Tests continuity of circuit using testing instruments
• Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards and need for adjustments
• Repairs faulty equipment or systems
• Other duties as assigned

Job description

Shift: Mondays - Thursdays 3:00PM - 1:30AM

Reads and interprets plans created by the Master Electrician to install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. This position is responsible to complete assigned day to day work of the electrical department; This position is responsible to ensure that all electrical work is within code, bylaw and other legislative requirements and is accountable for such. This position has line of sight to becoming a Master Electrician.

Responsibilities

• Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps


• Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment


• Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels


• Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads


• Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer,and oscilloscope


• Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement


• Repairs faulty equipment or systems


• Other duties as assigned
