Job summary

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) seeks an experienced Design Engineer for Electrical and Traction Power within the Streetcar Overhead Engineering team. You will deliver detailed electrical designs, coordinate with field teams and outside partners, and support testing and commissioning to keep critical systems reliable.

Ideal candidates hold a PEO license, a degree in Electrical Engineering, and substantial project leadership experience in traction power or related electrical networks.

Qualifications

• Registration with PEO as a licensed Engineer.
• University degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience leading projects and applying electrical engineering principles.
• Proven design experience in electrical/traction power systems.
• Field experience with multiple internal and external stakeholders; union environment is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of switchgear, emergency power, lighting and power distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and produce detailed designs and drawings for electrical and traction power projects.
• Coordinate TTC staff, consultants, contractors, and suppliers; ensure designs meet TTC standards.
• Prepare calculations, designs and specs for planned and emergency work; support testing and commissioning.
• Investigate, evaluate, test new or existing systems with operations; troubleshoot issues.
• Assist in estimating, budgeting, and procurement processes.
• Conduct feasibility studies and QA to ensure conformance to design and safety.
