OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Electrical student for a paid summer Co-Op for Summer 2027 at our Ottawa, Ontario office.

Merrick’s Summer Internship Program offers meaningful, hands‑on experience for students. Designed as a shorter‑term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they’re learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day‑to‑day life at an employee‑owned company.

The summer co‑op has a commitment of approximately May through August 2027.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Merrick Co‑Op Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of electrical design. Our intern will be exposed to a variety of electrical engineering experiences and tasks including, but not limited to, facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, fire detection, lighting system, communication systems and security and access control. The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have graduation date after August 2027 to be eligible.
• Knowledge of facility electrical and lighting design and/or power system design.
• Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate or technologist degree.
• Must be pursuing a degree as an Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technologist with an electrical emphasis.
• Client requirements for this position require Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Knowledge of power distribution design software (SKM, PowerTools, Easy Power).
• Local candidates are strongly preferred.
