Job summary

Bird Construction is seeking an Electrical Superintendent to lead field electrical work on hydroelectric unit overhaul projects. This site-based role ensures safe, efficient execution of electrical installation, testing and commissioning while coordinating trades, subcontractors, materials and interfaces with other disciplines.

The position is located on site, approximately 6 hours north of Sudbury, with travel as required.

Qualifications

Journeyperson Electrician certification or equivalent electrical trade qualification; a related technical diploma is an asset.
10+ years of progressive electrical construction experience, including leading crews or subcontractors.
Experience in hydroelectric, power generation, utilities, heavy industrial or major infrastructure preferred.
Knowledge of electrical systems, installation, testing, commissioning, lockout/tagout and codes.
Ability to plan and schedule field work, lead teams, manage productivity and coordinate fronts.
Ability to read and interpret contracts, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and schedules.
Strong safety leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Comfort with Microsoft Office and digital construction/field reporting tools.
Willingness to work at project sites, travel and accommodate project schedules.

Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day field execution of electrical work, ensuring safety and quality.
Plan and coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials, tools and equipment.
Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead plans with other teams.
Provide leadership to electrical supervisors, forepersons and crews.
Interpret electrical drawings and resolve field issues with the project team.
Implement Bird Safety Program, lead toolbox meetings and hazard assessments.
Monitor workmanship and quality documentation; support inspections and testing.
Coordinate electrical shutdowns, energization, testing and commissioning with client and stakeholders.
Track progress, labour and quantities; report risks and changes to PM.
Support material planning, procurement, subcontractor coordination and project closeout.
