Your impact

The Electrical Reliability Studies Engineer is responsible for performing power‑system and Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) studies for power generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, data centers and mission‑critical facilities. As a reliability studies engineer, you will develop and validate technical models, perform system‑impact and RAM studies, identify operational and design risks, and recommend practical improvements to system availability, redundancy, resilience, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop RAM models using reliability block diagrams, fault trees, equipment failure rates, repair times, maintenance assumptions, operational dependencies, and resource constraints.
  • Calculate system reliability, availability, and expected downtime, and identify critical equipment, single points of failure, system bottlenecks, and major contributors to downtime or service interruptions.
  • Perform normal‑condition, single‑contingency, multiple‑contingency, and extreme‑event assessments in accordance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Prepare technical reports and present study methodologies, findings, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable NERC and FERC requirements and relevant ISO/RTO reliability planning processes.
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of direct experience in power system modelling and studies, including reliability analysis.
  • Experience with power‑system analysis tools such as ETAP or equivalent software.
  • Familiarity with RAM software such as ReliaSoft BlockSim, Isograph Availability Workbench, or equivalent tools.
  • Familiarity with reliability indicators such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, MTBF, and MTTR.
  • Strong analytical, technical‑writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical capabilities with a focus on achieving results.
  • Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience with Monte Carlo simulation and probabilistic reliability assessment.
  • Experience conducting Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and knowledge of root‑cause analysis, and risk‑based maintenance strategies.
  • Knowledge of programming languages to streamline studies using Python or similar languages.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License or eligibility to obtain.
