PHASOR Engineering Inc. is a dynamic Alberta-based company specializing in engineering, design, and testing/commissioning of medium to high voltage electrical facilities. Focused on providing cost-effective and efficient power system engineering solutions, we are involved in a diverse range of projects from preliminary engineering to commissioning and startup.
We are seeking a Project Estimator responsible for leading utility-scale HV/MV substation, transmission, and distribution engineering estimates, including both self-perform and subcontracted scopes of work. The candidate will work closely with the Preconstruction Team, Project Managers, Purchasing, and Engineering, developing and maintaining relationships with material vendors and subcontractors/partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and understand the Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate.
- Develop concept SLDs, layouts, and BOMs to support estimates.
- Create detailed lists of engineering deliverables such as drawings, studies, and specifications.
- Develop detailed engineering schedules based on input from internal engineering and project management.
- Coordinate pricing and scheduling between multiple disciplines.
- Develop assumptions in conjunction with estimates, schedules, and proposal documents.
- Compile estimates from various sources into a comprehensive final estimate with engineering support as needed.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and relevant documents to identify key elements.
- Use industry-standard estimating software and methodologies for accurate cost estimation.
- Validate outsourced estimates with engineering support.
- Analyze project components to develop comprehensive budgets, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare complete estimates involving site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and presentation for management review.
- Provide estimating input on complex conceptual transmission projects.
- Participate in project planning sessions and team meetings.
- Communicate effectively with engineering teams, management, clients, and industry contacts; develop relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assist in developing plans for project execution, sequencing, and logistics.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors.
Knowledge and Skills
- 4-5+ years of estimating, cost control, project management, or engineering experience, especially in projects ranging from $0.5M to $25M.
- Understanding of construction documents and assessing their completeness.
- Experience in electrical estimating with a focus on transmission, distribution, and substation design and construction.
- Knowledge of power delivery systems, including substations and transmission lines.
- Familiarity with all engineering scopes: electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, and permitting.
- Understanding of shipping and logistics related to cost estimating.
- Experience with EPC estimates.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
Education
- B.Sc. in Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technologist, Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Construction Management Certificate, or equivalent relevant experience and education.
