Job summary

Burlington Hydro is seeking an Electrical Operator (Journeyperson/Apprentice) to monitor and operate its distribution system and ensure safe, reliable power delivery. The role is on-site at Burlington and requires certification or progression through the MEARIE program, with pay based on qualifications.

Candidates should be enrolled or willing to enroll in MEARIE Electrical Operator certification and possess UWPC certification or be willing to obtain it, plus a valid Ontario driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering Technologist degree or diploma required.
• MEARIE Electrical Operator certification or ability to obtain it.
• UWPC certification or willingness to obtain.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Monitor substations, lines and loads for Burlington Hydro’s distribution systems.
• Control and operate the electrical distribution system safely and efficiently.
• Prepare switching orders and oversee switching operations for maintenance and repair work.
• Dispatch crews and manage hold-offs on breakers for work protection.
• Communicate with internal/external customers and coordinate with Hydro One and neighboring LDCs.
