Job summary

Big Country Equipment is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Planner for fixed plant equipment in a mill/mine environment at a Southern B.C. mine site.

You will develop and maintain a comprehensive electrical maintenance plan for heavy equipment and mining operations, including BOMs, labour estimates, safety rules, and integration with SAP S/4HANA CMMS. The role requires a Journeyperson Electrician with CMMS/SAP experience, strong Excel skills, and a proactive safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Electrician certification required; Red Seal preferred.
• 3 to 5 years electrical planning in fixed plant/mill mine environment.
• 3+ years hands-on experience in mining electrical systems.
• CMMS experience, preferably SAP S/4HANA CMMS.
• Familiarity with CSA mining electrical codes and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement job/work procedures, BOMs, labour estimates, and safety rules for electrical work orders.
• Map electrical isolation, LOTO, permits, and code compliance.
• Prepare labour and contractor plans for downtime and turnarounds.
• Assist SAP S/4HANA CMMS implementation with the customer.
• Coordinate with mill operations, electrical supervisors, reliability engineers, and safety teams.
• Track KPIs and ensure maintenance packages comply with mining regulations.
• Integrate testing, inspection, and recertification intervals into maintenance schedules.
• Develop continuous improvement plans and embed safety in all planning.

Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Planner
Location: Southern B.C. Mine Site
Salary: 130,000 to $140,000
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors across Canada. The Role:

We are seeking an Electrical Maintenance Planner for fixed plant equipment in a mill/mine environment. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive electrical maintenance plan for heavy equipment and mining operations. This includes the development and implementation of job and work procedures as well as bills of materials (BOM’s), as part of the long-term implementation of SAP S4 Hanna CMMS (Central Maintenance Management System).

The Electrical Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

As a safety-sensitive position, you must remain fit for duty at all times during your shift in accordance with Company and Customer Safety Policies.

Responsibilities:

• Development and implementation of comprehensive job/work procedures, including but not limited to bill of materials, labour estimates, required craft skills, safety rules, and technical manuals for electrical work orders while creating and managing data integrity processes.
• Ensure electrical isolation requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols, permits, and statutory code compliance are mapped out.
• Prepare labour plans, contractor support plans, and task sequences for routine mill downtime, major plant turnarounds, and emergency breakdowns.
• Assist the customer with the implementation project of SAP S/4HANA CMMS.
• Coordinate closely with mill operations, electrical supervisors, reliability engineers, and safety teams to balance production targets with asset health.
• Ensure operational alignment while achieving targets as set out by the customer.
• Reporting & KPI tracking as required.
• Ensure electrical system compliance by creating the integration of strict statutory testing, inspection, and recertification intervals for electrical systems into the master maintenance schedule, ensuring all planned maintenance packages comply with Canadian/provincial mining regulations, electrical codes (e.g., CSA M421 - Use of Electricity in Mines), and site safety protocols.
• Develop continuous improvement plans and processes.
• Ensure safety is integrated into all planning and execution processes, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
• Other duties within the scope of the Electrical Maintenance Planner as requested.

Qualifications:

• Journeyperson Electrician Certification required (Red Seal preferred)
• 3 to 5 years of experience in electrical planning within a fixed plant/mill mine environment
• 3 + years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining electrical systems within the mining industry
• 3 + years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining electrical systems on fixed equipment and associated electrical systems
• Expert knowledge and experience with CMMS programs; SAP S/4HANA CMMS experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with electrical distribution, PLC/DCS control systems, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial networking
• Highly proficient in Excel (for data analysis/vlookups/pivot tables), Word, Teams, and Outlook, and experience with MS Project is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills with a preventive and predictive maintenance mindset
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities
• Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) or a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) designation (or the ability to demonstrate equivalent
• experience) is considered an asset
• Proven experience working within Canadian provincial mining regulatory frameworks
• Deep technical understanding of industrial Electrical systems
