Position Overview
This is technical, inspectional and regulatory work involving the inspection of electrical equipment and installations to ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, acts, standards and regulations. Reporting to the Electrical Inspector 2, the incumbent inspects residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations and equipment to ensure that materials used have been approved by the Canadian Standards Association and that such installations comply with by-laws, codes and regulations. The incumbent will check plans and specifications submitted for approval before work permit issue or rejection; provide technical assistance, advice and information to the public, contractors, designers and engineers on matters related to the work; issue electrical permits, certificates and compliance orders; record field inspections; prepare reports and correspondence and perform related administrative work.
The successful applicant will possess:
• Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and other related regulations and acts;
• Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical installation, construction, operation and maintenance projects;
• The ability to check and interpret plans and specifications; recognize technical requirements and suggest required changes; exercise sound judgement; establish and maintain effective working relationships and act in the absence of the senior electrical inspector;
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors, engineers and electricians;
• Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to work performance.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 and an electrical apprenticeship with sound related journeyman experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence, along with use of personal vehicle if corporate vehicle is not available is a requirement. Applicants must be eligible to be appointed as an Electrical Safety Officer. Preference will be given to those with considerable related experience preferably as an Electrical Safety Officer.

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $50.13 to $54.44 per hour (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week
