Job summary

Alithya is seeking an Electrical I&C Designer/Engineer in Ontario to contribute to instrumentation, control, and electrical engineering solutions for nuclear and regulated projects. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support development, testing, and implementation while ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes field verification, design reviews, and close client interaction, with travel to customer sites as needed to advance projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics/System Design Eng or equivalent.
• P.Eng. designation or in the process of obtaining it.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in instrumentation, controls, and electrical engineering in regulated industries.
• Strong AutoCAD Electrical skills and knowledge of Canadian electrical codes.
• Ability to work independently with strong safety and quality focus.

The salary range for this position in Ontario is $95,000 to $110,000. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills and competencies, and unique qualifications.

Your role, your impact

As an Electrical I&C Designer/Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of instrumentation, control, and electrical engineering solutions for nuclear and other highly regulated industrial projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, you’ll support the development, testing, and implementation of solutions that meet stringent safety, quality, and operational requirements.

General Responsibilities

Lead and support instrumentation, control, and electrical engineering activities for nuclear and regulated industrial projects;

Develop engineering solutions that meet customer, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements;

Support all phases of project execution, including requirements definition, design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and field implementation;

Interface directly with customers, vendors, constructors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, and participate in design reviews, technical evaluations, field walkdowns, and problem-resolution activities;

Support both new-build and modification (brownfield) projects within operating facilities while applying rigorous engineering processes, configuration management, and quality assurance practices.

CoreResponsibilities

Develop instrumentation and control system designs using AutoCAD Electrical;

Produce engineering deliverables, including control schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, interconnection diagrams, panel layouts, instrument indexes and I/O lists, cable schedules, single-line diagrams, and motor and VFD schematics;

Design industrial and nuclear control panels, marshalling cabinets, operator interface panels, and instrumentation systems;

Design, analyze, and troubleshoot current loops, analog and digital instrumentation circuits, DC control circuits, and low-voltage power distribution systems;

Perform field verification, equipment inspections, loop checks, functional testing, commissioning, and startup support;

Coordinate with panel fabricators and installation contractors and provide technical oversight during manufacturing and construction activities;

Prepare engineering calculations, design change packages, test procedures, commissioning plans, and operation and maintenance documentation;

Travel to customer sites to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and outage activities as required.

Keys to your success

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, System Design Engineering or an equivalent discipline;

P.Eng. designation from PEO, or in the process of obtaining it;

Minimum 3 years of experience in instrumentation, controls, and electrical engineering within nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated industries;

Experience in industrial control panel design, including AC, DC, and instrumentation circuits, as well as panel manufacturing and electrical installations;

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and a strong understanding of Canadian electrical codes and standards, power distribution, and low- and medium-voltage systems;

Ability to execute work to high safety and quality standards in client-facing environments;

Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently, respond to changing priorities, and collaborate effectively across diverse projects and teams.
