Job summary

Modern Niagara in Ottawa is seeking an Electrical Estimator to prepare, assemble, and submit tender prices for projects of varying size. You will develop accurate estimates, maintain pricing records, and support management in pursuing construction opportunities.

This role emphasizes collaboration with project teams, suppliers, and sub-trades to ensure competitive pricing, thorough cost breakdowns, and timely bid submissions for P3 and design-build ventures.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of electrical estimating experience.
  • 3 years on P3 and Design-Build projects.
  • Post-secondary diploma in electrical or construction technology or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of estimating tools such as Accubid; Livecount and Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and ability to prioritize workload under pressure.
  • Self-disciplined and motivated with a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Holds or is eligible to obtain Government of Canada security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantity take-offs and enter data into estimating systems.
  • Assemble all elements of an estimate including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Prepare, review, and submit bid documents to meet requirements.
  • Gather labor breakdowns for budgeting and planning.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid and post-bid meetings as required.
  • Participate in turnover meetings to assist planning and budgeting.
  • Establish relationships with suppliers and sub-trades for competitive pricing.
  • Review project schematics and collaborate on bid strategies.

Role Summary

The Electrical Estimator works within the estimating team to prepare, assemble, and submit tender prices for projects of varying size and scope. This role is responsible for developing accurate estimates, maintaining pricing records, and supporting the management team in acquiring construction projects.

Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Industry certifications such as Certified Quantity Surveyor or Certified Construction Estimator.
  • Experience in electrical contracting trades.
  • Familiarity with advanced estimating software tools.

Expected annual compensation: $75,000 - $100,000
