Hammond Power Solutions Inc. in Guelph, ON, is hiring an Electrical Engineering Designer - L1 to design transformers/reactors of medium complexity with technical guidance.

You will interact with customers, prepare quotes, and support manufacturing while ensuring quality and timeliness. A hands-on engineer with strong fundamentals and communication skills is desired, with P.Eng progression encouraged.

Qualifications

• BSc in Electrical Engineering preferred; Technologist is acceptable.
• 3–5 years’ design experience for transformers/related products.
• Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and problem solving.
• Eligible for P.Eng designation or pursuing it is preferred.
• Hands-on approach with good communication and learning ability.
• Proficient in MS Office and able to use programming languages.
• Capable of engineering calculations including stress analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design transformers/reactors of medium complexity using existing rules.
• Review requirements with customers and clarify needs.
• Prepare quotes with technical details and factory cost.
• Develop optimized designs and MIP aligned with quoted costs.
• Coordinate with drafting for design optimization and support manufacturing.
• Provide test reports support and resolve field/QA issues.
• Adhere to COD project requirements and cost targets.
• Collaborate with customers to deliver cost-effective solutions on time.

We currently have an opening for an Electrical Engineering Designer - L1, come grow with us!

Reporting to the Manager Electrical Engineering Design, LV, the Electrical Engineering Designer - L1 will be responsible for the design of transformers/reactors of simple to high complexity, with technical guidance. The designer will be responsible for direct interaction with customer to provide high level of customer support. They will be responsible for all designs/projects executed in terms of quality of output and support to other departments and timeliness of each activity.

This role's responsibilities can classify for hours towards a Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) if not already obtained.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Design transformers/reactors of ‘Medium’ complexity. Using existing rules to provide guidelines for the design. The designer is responsible to make technical decisions to complete the design.
• Review and understand application requirements and discuss with customers for clarification or suggestions.
• Prepare quotes with technical particulars and factory cost.
• Prepare optimized design and MIP for orders. The cost must be in line with the quoted factory cost.
• Coordinate and provide support to drafting for overall optimization of design.
• Provide support to manufacturing, as required and approve test reports.
• Provide support for customers/field issues/ QA, as required.
• Follow the requirements specified for COD projects.
• Work with customers to develop an overall cost-effective solutions for the customers application.
• Work with HPS team to accomplish the requirements of the project cost effectively and on time.

Do you qualify? We are seeking:

• Preferred: BSc. in Electrical Engineering; Minimum: Electrical Engineering Technologist
• 3-5 years’ experience in design of Transformers and related products
• Firm understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
• Working towards/eligible to apply for Professional Engineering Designation or completion of P.Eng. strongly preferred
• Adopts a hands‑on, practical approach to problem‑solving and learning
• Demonstrates strong and effective communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with full compliance to best practices
• Experienced in working with programming languages
• Capable of performing engineering calculations, including stress analysis

For this role, the base salary range is $71,600.00 to $107,400.00, with final offers determined by experience, qualifications, and role complexity.
