Job summary

Hatch is seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training new graduate to join the Project Delivery Group in Saskatoon, SK. You will support electrical and controls design, work from the Saskatoon office, and report to the CA&E discipline lead.

You will gain experience on global projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and develop professionally toward a P.Eng. designation while contributing to safe, innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • Graduating in 2027 or recent graduate with Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Interest in control systems, instrumentation, or power engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with electrical design calculations and CAD tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist electrical and controls engineering design deliverables.
  • Drafting in CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD).
  • Perform cable sizing, lighting calculations, and material take-offs.
  • Prepare equipment and load lists and vendor data reviews.
  • Create cable block diagrams, single line diagrams, and schematics.
  • Attend design reviews and participate in site walkdowns.

Responsibilities:
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete electrical and controls engineering design deliverables for a variety of projects.
  • Assist with electrical deliverables, including but not limited to:
  • Drafting in CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Calculations (cable sizing, lighting, etc.)
  • Engineering lists (load list, equipment list, cable schedules, material take-offs)
  • Procurement packages (equipment specifications, technical bid evaluations, vendor data review)
  • Design Deliverables (cable block diagrams, single line diagrams, electrical layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams)
  • Become knowledgeable with electrical design and their practical applications, regional codes and standards (CSA, NEC, IEC, ISA etc.), various engineering design tools and applications, and Hatch’s quality procedures.
  • Work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to deliver the best solution for our clients.
  • Assist our engineers and designers with their responsibilities which may include but are not limited to checking engineering deliverables, attending design reviews, quality reviews, and participating in site inspections and walkdowns.
Education and Experience:
  • Graduating in 2027 or recent graduate in an Electrical Engineering Bachelor or Master program at an accredited University.
  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
  • Interest in any of the following will be considered an asset: control systems, instrumentation, communications, Power systems engineering, Power Electronics, distribution systems, protection and coordination, power system analysis.
  • Previous co-op or work experience in control systems or electrical and power engineering design and execution will be considered an asset.
  • Technical experience with electrical design calculations, power system modeling tools and software, ability to use data-centric design tools, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) will be considered an asset.
