Job summary

BBA is seeking an electrical engineer specialized in electrical apparatus to support hydroelectric projects across Canada. You will design electrical power systems for hydro plants and lead preliminary studies, detailed engineering, and installation layouts, working with multidisciplinary teams in a high‑power environment.

The role requires a university degree in electrical engineering, professional association membership, and strong English/French communication skills.

Qualifications

• University degree in electrical engineering.
• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
• Ten years of proven experience in electrical engineering, ideally in hydroelectric projects or power installations.
• Knowledge of utility standards and practices.
• Strong command of design methods for electrical power and distribution systems.
• Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD and similar tools).
• Advanced French skills to collaborate with Québec offices/clients.
• Advanced English skills to collaborate with other provinces and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical power systems for hydroelectric power plants, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear.
• Participate in preliminary and feasibility studies as well as detailed engineering.
• Develop layout and installation engineering for electrical apparatus, including medium-voltage cabinets, bus ducts, transformers, and low-voltage power centers.
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as drawings, elevations, construction details, one-line diagrams, material lists, and cable schedules.
• Perform or verify electrical calculations to size and select apparatus and cables.
• Help select equipment, review vendor data and estimate quantities.
• Draft technical specifications for installation work.
• Coordinate work with other disciplines and conduct site surveys or tests as required.
• Supervise CEPs and technologists on the team.

Our electrical engineering team is recognized for its expertise in energy and complex electrical infrastructure and plays a key role in developing, refurbishing and optimizing hydroelectric power plants across Canada. Driven by the energy transition and the need to modernize existing assets, our projects cover the entire life cycle of these facilities, from preliminary studies to commissioning.

To support the growth of our hydropower work, we’ll looking for an electrical engineer specialized in electrical apparatus. You’ll be supported by experienced multidisciplinary teams and take part in major projects that draw on your technical skills and your understanding of high‑power environments.

• Design electrical power systems for hydroelectric power plants, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear
• Participate in preliminary and feasibility studies as well as detailed engineering
• Develop layout and installation engineering for electrical apparatus, including:
  • Medium-voltage cabinets

• Help select equipment, review vendor technical data and estimate quantities
• Draft technical specifications for installation work
• Coordinate your work with the other disciplines involved, including structural, civil, heavy and auxiliary mechanical, control and protection, building and architecture
• Conduct site surveys and visits, help with technical support activities on site and during commissioning phases and participate in factory and site acceptance tests, when required
• Supervise the work of CEPs and technologists on the team

• Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English‑speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the Québec Electrical Code
