Career Opportunity:

We have an exciting full-time opportunity for an Electrical Engineer in Training with a focus on electrical systems design (protection, control, and apparatus) within our Edmonton Engineering team. Reporting to the Consulting Engineer, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing engineering and occasional field support for projects in the heavy industrial, petrochemical, and oil sectors, ultimately delivering superior client experiences.

Accountabilities

• Apply practical experience and knowledge of power systems protective relays related to industrial projects
• Prepare construction work packages, including technical drawings and supporting design documents
• Support project definition and implementation
• Prepare development stage documents such as Design Base Memos and Engineering Design Specifications
• Assist with procurement of equipment, materials, and parts
• Coordinate electrical inspection services
• Conduct QA/QC of outgoing documents
• Manage document control activities within client and company systems
• Develop proposals based on audits, studies, and client requests
• Apply project management and quality control measures to ensure financial performance and client satisfaction
• Collaborate with project teams, support, mentor, and communicate effectively
• Provide project status updates to relevant stakeholders
• Work safely around electrical systems in various environments
• Write procurement specifications and prepare bid analyses
• Complete technical report writing
• Interact professionally with clients
• Identify and implement process improvements
• Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

• BSc Electrical Engineering with 1-4 years of experience or
• Electrical Engineering Technologist with 1-6 years of experience
• Working towards P.Eng. or P.Tech. registration
• Experience with ETAP power system simulation is an asset
• Valid driver’s license
• Self-managed with initiative and client focus
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment
• Excellent time management and attention to detail
• Positive attitude
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams

Additional Assets:

• Electrical design experience, especially in petrochemical environments
• Knowledge of E&I design tools (ETAP, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SmartPlant)
• Understanding of P&IDs, diagrams, data sheets, schematics, and electrical apparatus
• Experience with electrical equipment design and installation in hazardous locations
• Experience in industries like pipelines, manufacturing, utilities, petrochemical facilities
