Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in North York, Ontario, is seeking an Electrical Engineer with Airfield Ground Lighting experience to join our Engineering Services group on a regular full-time basis. The role focuses on planning, design, and delivery of electrical systems for a major program, ensuring compliance with codes and industry standards.

You will perform FAP reviews, support field activities, coordinate with disciplines, and mentor staff, with a hybrid work culture and competitive compensation in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with aviation focus.
  • P.Eng registration with PEO or eligible.
  • 6 years of design, construction and commissioning on major capital projects.
  • Aviation experience is an asset.
  • Airfield ground lighting and system safety design knowledge.
  • Familiarity with ICAO, Transport Canada guidance and relevant standards.
  • ISO 55001 Asset Management knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance across planning, design and delivery of electrical systems for the program.
  • Ensure design and construction comply with codes, reviews, submittals and testing.
  • Conduct Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) review for renovations and new construction.
  • Provide field inspections and non-resident engineering support.
  • Develop governance and process documentation for electrical practices.
  • Assess alternative technical proposals for feasibility and alignment with project requirements.
  • Coordinate technical elements with other disciplines to ensure integration.
  • Review contractor deliverables for compliance with requirements.
  • Monitor designer input during construction (RFIs, shop drawings, approvals).
  • Provide management-level progress reports on electrical design progress.
  • Coach, mentor and support career development of staff.

Job description

Overview

The Engineering Services group is looking for an Electrical Engineer with Airfield Ground Lighting experience to join our growing team. This is a regular full-time permanent position based in our North York, Ontario office.

Your role
  • Provides advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to electrical systems design and construction including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensures that electrical systems design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work and new construction.
  • Providing non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Support the development of governance and process documentation with respect to the program's practices for electrical systems engineering.
  • Assesses alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provides feedback as to the feasibility of the proposal and alignment to the project requirements.
  • Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to electrical systems engineering including establishing targets/goals for the program.
  • Coordinates the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
  • Reviews deliverables submitted by the contractor/designer and confirms compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Monitors the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc.)
  • Provides Management level progress reports and briefings with respect to electrical systems design progress, issues, and opportunities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of staff.
About you
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on aviation and commercial electrical systems.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO or eligible to be registered.
  • 6 years' experience in the design, construction and commissioning of industrial and commercial electrical systems within a major capital project/program.
  • Aviation experience is considered an asset. Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
  • Thorough working knowledge of airfield ground lighting, system safety design; electrical design/construction; operations and maintenance.
  • Understanding of stakeholder/regulatory requirements including but not limited to ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations (includes tenants, airlines, and travelers), HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories (ULC), Code Consultants, and Health & Safety Consultants.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55001 Asset Management standard.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD and MicroStation.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $90,000 - $120,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
