Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking an Engineering Lead within the EMO to manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team on a major GTAA project.

You will guide design development, oversee pre-construction, coordinate with the main contractor and stakeholders, and deliver executive-level progress reports.

This role emphasizes BIM standards, design reviews, and handover to construction, with a hybrid work culture.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or architecture; professional designation is an asset.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in large capital programs in planning, development, engineering and/or architecture.
  • Experience using AutoCAD & Revit; MicroStation is an asset; BIM/Civil 3D experience.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to run workshops with large groups.
  • Knowledge of design reviews, scope finalization, cost estimating, scheduling and risk assessments.

  • Facilitates design reviews and coordinates input from all stakeholders; manages external reviews (airlines, authorities).
  • Provides management and executive level progress reports highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Manages client review/approval of the design and handover between Development and Construction.
  • Provides technical assistance to delivery teams and supports GTAA facility requirements using planning and design perspective.
  • Conducts quality reviews for compliance with program scope.
  • Coaching and mentoring GTAA staff; supports BIM and document control standards training.

Overview

The Engineering Lead role will be hired under the Engineering Management Centre of Excellence group within the Engineering Management Organization (EMO) Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Engineering Lead role will play a support role in the delivery of Engineering Services on a large project under the GTAA project.

The candidate will manage the Engineering team including Controls Engineering, Facilities Systems Engineering, Airside & Groundside Infrastructure, Architectural Services, Engineering Data, and Commissioning Services.

Your role
  • Leads and coordinates the team that implements multi-disciplinary design standards and works collaboratively with the main contractor.
  • Oversees pre-construction phase services, including planning, all design phases, site development, permitting, and procurement support.
  • Serves as client interface at multiple levels and at all phases and provides technical advice guidance and subject matter expertise with respect to design development.
  • Manages design consultancy agreements to achieve the requirements of the contract in terms of technical specification, schedule, and cost.
  • Facilitates design reviews and coordinates input and feedback from all stakeholders to ensure feedback is provided in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Manages reviews by external stakeholder groups (airlines, agencies, authorities having jurisdiction).
  • Provides Management and Executive level progress and performance reports, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
  • Manages the client review/approval of the design at all phases and facilitates an effective handover between Development and Construction.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to the delivery teams based on knowledge of the design phases and GTAA's facilities requirements, by bringing the perspective of planning and design to the other phases of program/projects construction delivery phases of the Program.
  • Conducts and coordinates quality reviews for compliance with scope the requirements of work the Program.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff. Provide training and guidance on established BIM and document control standards supporting GTAA LIFT programs.
  • Prepares detailed lists and packs hardcopy records for archiving.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff.
About you
  • Recognized degree in engineering or architecture. Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in large capital programs in a role related to planning, development, engineering and/or architecture.
  • Demonstrable experience using AutoCAD & Revit (MicroStation is an asset) /BIM/Civil 3D design software & Experience in Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrable experience in performing design reviews and facilitating design coordination activities.
  • Good working knowledge of program development including scope finalization, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting/workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
  • Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $115,000 - $165,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
