Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an Electrical Engineer to join a project team designing, modifying, and analyzing power plant electrical systems. Under supervision, you will perform calculations, review documentation, and support engineering efforts to meet client requirements.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering from a CABE- or ABET-accredited program and 3+ years of relevant experience. It supports a hybrid schedule with in-office work three days per week and remote work two days.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from a CABE- or ABET-accredited program (Canada or US).
  • 3+ years of experience in designing electrical systems for power plants in a project team.
  • Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, transformers, generators, motors; calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve electrical engineering issues.
  • Assist leads/managers to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and review calculations (three-phase AC/DC power studies, short circuit, voltage drop, motor start, relays).
  • Prepare design input documents and drawings; review engineering reports and studies.
  • Perform independent reviews of others' work and develop project work plans.

Description

Under the direction of the electrical engineering lead or project manager, this position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power plant electrical systems.

  • You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues
  • Assist the electrical engineering lead or project manager in efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, including three phase AC and DC power studies, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting and protective relay settings
  • Prepare engineering documentation for design input for drawing production
  • Prepare and review engineering reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Develop project work plans

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program
  • 3 or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants, or modifications or replacements for existing plants; experience should include the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience is required with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective working in teams and individual work
  • Detail oriented approach to work

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PE license
  • MSEE
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus

Compensation Range

$64,262 - $98,178
