Job description

Our client is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and integrate electrical products into complete marine steering control systems, with a strong focus on electrical panel enclosure design, control cabinet layouts, schematics, and system integration. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is genuinely curious about how things work and enjoys turning concepts into practical designs that can be built, tested, and supported in the real world. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong critical-thinking skills, and a willingness to dig into challenges until the work is fully complete. You’ll work closely with electrical and mechanical engineering, production, and service teams, so being a collaborative team player who communicates well and can take direct feedback is essential. If this sounds like you.

Responsibilities
  • Design and integrate electrical systems, incorporating standard electrical products and custom-engineered components into complete steering control systems, with a focus on electrical panel enclosure and control cabinet design.
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, cable schedules, and technical documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
  • Perform electrical calculations related to equipment specification, protection, and conductor sizing, ensuring designs are practical, accurate, and suitable for production.
  • Support the build, setup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical and electro-hydraulic systems, working directly with production and service teams to identify and resolve issues.
  • Provide technical support to service teams and customers, assist with marine class documentation and compliance requirements, and contribute to improving system quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively across engineering, production, and service while taking ownership of assignments from concept through completion, approaching problems with curiosity, critical thinking, and a willingness to get hands-on.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology; a Canadian CEAB-accredited engineering degree is preferred.
  • Approximately 1-3 years of experience in electrical system design, electrical panel enclosure/control cabinet design, or similar work, including experience gained through co-op placements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing electrical panel schematics and enclosure layouts, with practical understanding of how designs translate from drawings into cabinets that can be built and wired.
  • Working experience with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN, along with familiarity with cabling, wiring diagrams, system integration, and electrical documentation; PLC programming experience, particularly Siemens S7, is preferred.
  • Strong technical curiosity and critical-thinking skills - someone who naturally wants to understand how things work, enjoys building or fixing things, asks thoughtful questions, and can methodically troubleshoot problems rather than simply looking for the quickest answer.
