- Prepare / review all project electrical engineering calculations and select all equipment.
- Prepare and review project specifications and lead a design team to prepare drawings / schematics institutional, healthcare, municipal, commercial and industrial facilities.
- Document and communicate project scope to design team members
- Coordinate electrical requirements with Senior Mechanical Engineer / Designer and external consultants
- Project management, including liaising with clients, building owners, and contractors.
- Prepare fee and cost estimates, as requested, and tender documents according to office standards
- Ensure plans and specifications conform to applicable codes, good engineering practices and project scope
- Communicate all requirements clearly to internal and external teams.
- Work cohesively with a team overseeing projects during construction and respond to technical inquiries.
- Supervise intermediate and junior engineers, designers and cad operators
- Assigning tasks to technical / administrative support team members.
- Internal / external coordination, including managing and maintaining document quality.
- Full understanding of construction project procurement methods and apply that understanding to projects.
- Promote / enforce company standards relating to administration, documentation, and processes
- Conduct site reviews and attend project meetings with clients as required
- Stamp and sign drawings for submission to client
- Mentor and develop a team of engineers and designers
Education and Licensing
Licensed professional engineer (EIT, P.Eng.)
Post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, applicable CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES, and NFPA Codes and Standards.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models (ex. AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
- Experience working with engineering in simple to complex electrical buildings including utilization of design programs (AutoCAD, REVIT)
- Familiarity with construction practices and procurement processes.
- The ability to work independently on complex institutional, industrial, municipal, healthcare and commercial engineering projects
- The ability to carry out routine construction assignments, site surveys and field work
- The ability to liaise with clients, contractors and local authorities
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Initiative and pro-active approach towards projects, with the ability to multi-task under stress of deadlines
- Desire to work in person, in a collaborative team environment
