Job summary

Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) is seeking an Electrical Engineering Associate in Ontario to design and update equipment, program PLCs, manage projects, and coordinate with contractors and vendors.

You will work on equipment specifications, accuracy, and performance improvements while supporting sustainability initiatives. Responsibilities include leading projects, preparing proposals, and creating electrical drawings and control software for automation systems.

Qualifications

  • Electrical engineering background required or technologist diploma.
  • Experience with Catia/AutoCAD for electrical design drawings.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMIs.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects from investigation through budget approval and implementation.
  • Prepare proposals and deliver management presentations.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Safety, and Purchasing on equipment specs and procurement.
  • Lead equipment commissioning, modifications and installations.

As an Electrical Engineering Associate, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of automotive manufacturing.

As an Electrical Engineering associate with Honda of Canada Mfg., you will work alongside a team and be involved with the design of new and existing equipment, PLC programming, managing projects through theme creation, data collection, costing and budget tracking.

In this role you will complete technical investigations, troubleshooting, creating new and updating existing equipment specifications, leading installation and construction projects, and coordinating and supervising contractors and vendors. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing countermeasures for quality concerns, equipment cycle time problems, as well as providing support for Equipment Services and Production when required.

You will also have opportunities to help Honda of Canada Mfg., meet our Triple Zero initiative to become carbon neutral, use clean energy and apply resource circulation.

The Pay: $40.38 / hour - $46.17/ hour plus over-time and bonuses.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead projects of various complexities including initial investigation, project and budget approval, resource management, testing, and implementation.
  • Develop proposals and deliver presentations to all levels of management.
  • Collaborate with various Honda of Canada Mfg. departments such as Quality, Safety, or Purchasing on equipment specification, design, and procurement.
  • Lead and support equipment commissioning, modifications, and installations.
  • Create, modify, or review assembly and layout drawings using Catia and AutoCAD.
  • Create, modify, or review electrical control programs using various software tools for PLCs, Robots, HMIs and other components.
  • Use Root Cause Analysis to develop and implement equipment improvements including equipment safety, quality, efficiency, reliability, and recovery processes.
  • Prepare and complete reports and documentation for downtime, Root Cause Analysis, countermeasure activity, project status updates, and follow-up activities.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering degree or Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma.
  • Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with Catia and AutoCAD or equivalent software.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMIs.
  • Experience troubleshooting, integrating, and programming automated equipment including HMIs, PLCs, robot teaching, vision systems, variable frequency drives, servo drives, conveyor systems, safety scanners, and sensors.
  • Hands on experience integrating and troubleshooting automation equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, or conveyor systems.
  • Project management experience. Including managing contractors, managing budget, and status tracking.
  • Previous engineering work experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and PowerPoint; ability to organize, analyze and present data.
Job-Related Must Haves
  • Ability to support any overtime, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to support a variety of shifts, sometimes on short notice.
  • Valid G Class Driver's License.
  • Willing and able to support production as required.
  • Willing and able to travel on short notice (Canadian Passport or B1 Visa Required).
Preferred Experience
  • Strong quantitative and analytical approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Strong reporting skills using Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheets, Power BI, SharePoint, or MS Project.
  • Experience creating and modifying equipment design and layout, and/or process design and flow.
  • Hands on experience integrating and troubleshooting automation equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, or conveyor systems.
  • Experience implementing environmental and sustainability projects or initiatives.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative through leadership and problem investigation and solution implementation.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Safeguarding of Machinery, and Industrial Robots and Robot Systems, Pre-start Health and Safety Reviews (PHSR) and TSSA requirements.

Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) provides a competitive salary structure and starting wage based on previous, related experience. Additionally, HCM provides weekly, monthly, and annual attendance bonuses, equaling a potential additional $1.40 per hour; a Team Achievement Bonus paid two times per year; an industry leading Defined Contribution (DC) pension that includes company contributions and company matching; and a comprehensive benefit plan that provides choice and flexibility with the cost subsidized by company contributions. HCM also provides shift premiums of 5% for afternoon shift, and 10% for the overnight shift.
