Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

As a key member of the Electrical New Product Development (NPD) team, you will be responsible for completing electrical engineering design tasks and projects, including PLC programming, from concept through to production implementation. This includes design activities, calculations, communications, drawings, and bill of materials.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Execute and complete engineering design tasks and project assignments supporting prototyping/testing and product development per NPD processes.
  • Coordinate your tasks to meet deadlines, maintain task status, report progress, and communicate risks related to scope changes.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
  • Review engineering documents, service instructions, shop floor instructions, and other authorized documents.

Common functions with other NPD roles include:

  • Creating engineering designs that meet customer specifications, technical summaries, and industry standards, ensuring performance and buildability.
  • Conducting controlled testing of components and systems to meet contractual and vendor requirements, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Completing engineering drawings and releasing documents following procedures.
  • Interacting with suppliers and customers on design-related issues, aiming for application approval.
  • Performing project design reviews and creating technical documents such as service instructions and shop floor instructions.

Supports include:

  • Documenting the use of supplier products, reviewing requirements, and ensuring fitness for use in our products, including application approval and testing.
  • Managing product launch integration with production, quality assurance, customer service, and other departments.

Consults on:

  • Ensuring product requirements and technical content align with specifications.
  • Reviewing bid documents for compliance and conducting FMEA and hazard analysis exercises.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Engineering Technology.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • At least three years of design experience with demonstrated ability to meet performance objectives.
  • Proficiency in multiplexing systems, CAN bus networks, and sensor interfacing.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools.
  • Experience in electrical integration of automotive systems for heavy-duty buses and coaches, including communication standards like SAE J1939, ISO 11898, ISO 26262.
  • Strong multitasking skills, excellent communication, teamwork, self-motivation, and project management abilities. Ability to travel as needed.
