Job summary

SkyFire Energy is seeking an Electrical Apprentice to join the Solar Operations & Maintenance team in Medicine Hat, AB. This full-time role supports utility-scale solar plants across Western Canada with on-site training and indentureship.

Responsibilities include assisting senior technicians, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety on site. Expect travel, flexible scheduling, and weekend on-call duties as part of a growing solar company.

Qualifications

• Must be registered for an Electrical Apprenticeship or show ability to start one.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
• Willing to travel to out-of-town sites regularly.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to O&M of utility-scale solar plants across Western Canada.
• Ensure crew and job-site safety, including PPE and fall protection.
• Aid senior technicians with daily tasks, maintenance and repairs.
• Use hand tools and electrical testing devices safely.
• Occasionally drive between sites and weekends on call.

What the role offers:

Primary duties of the job include:

• Contributing to the operations and maintenance of utility scale solar plants across Western Canada
• Ensure crew and job site safety, including proper use of PPE and Fall Protection
• Aiding senior technicians in their daily responsibilities, including cleaning, organization, record keeping, reporting, equipment maintenance and repair
• Using hand tools, both manual and powered. Safely using multi meters and other electrical testing devices.
• Helping with site upkeep as required
• Providing friendly service to all customers
• Highway driving in all weather conditions
• Weekends on call, twice per month
• A mix of weekdays spent locally and away

Qualifications (must haves):

• Ability to carry items up to 60lbs throughout the day
• A commitment to safety, a high level of spatial awareness and strong critical thinking skills
• Comfortable working long days and the ability to be flexible with scheduling
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, year-round
• Willing to work out of town regularly
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Registered for Electrical Apprenticeship, or interest and ability to become an Electrical Apprentice
• A valid class 5 license, with a clean driving record
• CLB 7/Intermediate is the minimum English level required for safety protocol
• Exhibit a high level of responsibility, honesty, alertness and accountability
• Amicable and respectful towards other team members

Assets (preferred but not required):

• Prior construction/trades experience is preferred, on job training will be provided
• Solar training and/or solar installation certification (SAIT, NAIT, NABCEP, SEI, etc)
• Valid Fall Protection training/certification (otherwise provided by SkyFire)
• Prior training or safety certifications i.e heavy equipment, electrical safety, first aid.
