Job summary

Silent-Aire Limited Partnership, a Johnson Controls subsidiary, is a technology-driven manufacturer specializing in hyperscale cooling and data center solutions. The Electrical Apprentice position supports installation, termination and assembly of electrical systems, under a Journeyperson, within our Edmonton region facilities.

You will work across multiple shifts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, gaining hands-on experience with conduit, wiring, control panels, and testing.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered as an Apprentice Electrician with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) and actively enrolled in an approved trade school program.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of electrical experience.
  • Previous work experience in an industrial, commercial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical tools, materials and equipment is an asset.
  • Experience with routine electrical maintenance operations is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate conduit, cable, electrical equipment, panels, sensors and control components in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Assist with the construction and fabrication of control panels and perform rough-in and finishing wiring for control systems.
  • Install interlocking wiring and assist with wiring verification and checkout in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.
  • Install electrical system components and wiring in compliance with applicable codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and where applicable NEC, NESC, NFPA and UFC.
  • Assist with testing installed, repaired or modified equipment to verify proper operation and performance.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures.
  • Support review of facility electrical system plans and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with testing installed equipment to verify proper operation.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and maintenance.
  • Maintain maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in electrical technologies and codes.
  • Monitor parts usage and report shortages.
  • Assist in preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Support quality checks and inspection readiness.
  • Ensure tasks meet required standards.
  • Perform duties under supervision per apprenticeship requirements.
  • Work in compliance with safety program standards and Alberta OHS Act.

Position Summary

The Electrical Apprentice supports the installation,terminationand assembly of electrical systems, including conduit, cabling, equipment, panels,sensorsand control devices. This roleassistswith the construction and fabrication of control panels and systems, including the installation of interlocking wiring and participation in wiring verification and checkout activities to ensure proper functionality, under the direction of a certified Journeyperson.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Install and terminate conduit, cable, electrical equipment, panels, sensors and control components in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

  • Assist with the construction and fabrication of control panels and perform rough‑in and finishing wiring for control systems.

  • Install interlocking wiring and assist with wiring verification and checkout in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.

  • Install electrical system components and wiring in compliance with applicable codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and where applicable, NEC, NESC, NFPA and UFC.

  • Assist with the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electrical control circuits for motors and control devices.

  • Support the preparation of material take‑offs and identification of required electrical equipment and components.

  • Assist with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures in accordance with company safety policies.

  • Support the review of facility electrical system plans and specifications and identify opportunities for improvements to operational performance and efficiency.

  • Assist with testing installed, repaired or modified equipment to verify proper operation and performance.

  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and other basic maintenance activities as required.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation in accordance with company procedures.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in electrical technologies, codes, compliance requirements and repair techniques.

  • Monitor electrical parts and materials usage and report any shortages, discrepancies or material issues to supervision.

  • Assist in preparing preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.

  • Support quality control checks and inspection readiness by ensuring work meets drawings, specifications and applicable standards.

  • Ensure assigned tasks and project work are completed accurately in alignment with required standards.

  • Perform assigned electrical tasks under the direction of a certified Journeyperson or designated supervisor in accordance with apprenticeship requirements.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.

  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of electrical fundamentals, including voltage, current, resistance and basic circuitry.

  • Basic understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable standards.

  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environment and adhering to safety protocols.

  • Awareness of electrical safety practices and hazard recognition.

  • Demonstrate commitment to completing technical training and progressing toward Journeyperson certification.

  • Exposure to electrical installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting activities.

  • Introductory ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications.

  • Introductory knowledge of motor controls, sensors and control circuits.

  • Ability to safely use basic electrical hand tools, power tools and test instruments.

Education and Work Experience

Working Conditions
  • Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures and other production‑related hazards.

  • Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and excessive noise levels in the workplace.

  • Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs.

  • Must have the ability to stand for extended periods throughout each shift.

  • Manual dexterity is required to effectively operate tools and equipment.

  • Overtime may be available occasionally based on operational needs.
