Job summary

The Gichi-Aya'aa (Elders) Community Navigator position at M’Chigeeng First Nation focuses on providing recreational, educational and community support services to elders. You will plan activities, integrate Anishnabemowin and cultural practices, and coordinate with the Home Care & Community Program to meet elders’ needs.

Strong organizational, confidentiality and computer skills are required, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • OSSD with relevant post-secondary coursework and 2 years’ related experience.
  • Health Care Aide Certificate and Personal Support Worker Certificate.
  • Experience with volunteers, elderly, and developmentally challenged populations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and implement educational and social activities for elders.
  • Identify resources to meet community needs and objectives.
  • Incorporate Anishnabemowin and cultural values into program delivery.
  • Inform community members of upcoming events organized by Home Care & Community Program.
  • Provide administrative reports for funding and accountability.
  • Manage medical equipment loan program and maintain equipment.
  • Maintain the passenger bus according to Ministry standards.
  • Provide care and home support as required for elderly residents.
  • Maintain confidentiality and unbiased approaches in all work.
  • Collaborate with Home & Community Care Team and external agencies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Coordinate cultural events and ensure cultural components are practiced.
