Job summary

Robertson College is seeking Practicum Observers to oversee and mentor students in ELC placements across Alberta. You will monitor progress, assess learning, and support staff with final evaluations to ensure a positive practicum experience.

Contract, part-time (in-person) positions available in Grande Prairie, McMurray, Yellowhead, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Hanna, Kitscoty. Hourly rate is $40 per hour. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in child care leadership and ECE III certification.

Qualifications

• Must have minimum 5 years of experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or in Child Care Management.
• ECE III certification required.
• Teaching experience/instructor’s certificate is an asset.
• Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students and develop rapport with a diverse population.
• Confident, self-managing and punctual with strong organizational skills.
• Adaptable, flexible (days, evenings & weekends) and able to work independently or in a team.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Apps.

Responsibilities

Overview

Practicum Observers are responsible for overseeing and observing students in the Practicum setting. They are responsible for supporting a positive learning experience, assessing student learning, assessing the Practicum experience, and providing support to the Early Childhood Center around learning expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Practicum Observers are required to perform a range of duties including but not limited to:

• Monitoring, assisting, and mentoring students in ELC placements as required.
• Supporting and guiding students in a positive learning environment on duties and responsibilities of an ELC.
• Monitoring students' skills on assigned tasks while out on practicum.
• Completing weekly reports on students and their progress.
• Providing feedback and assistance to students on positive or "need to work on" statements.
• Collaborating with the staff in completing a final evaluation on the student's practical performance.
• Facilitating the filling out of practicum checklists.
• Reviewing final evaluations with each student.
• Documenting in computer based program daily & record daily performance of students

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or in Child Care Management.
• ECE III certification required.
• Teaching experience/and or possession of an Instructor’s certificate is an asset.
• Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students, and the ability to develop rapport with a diverse population.
• Confident and self-managing.
