Job summary

Robertson College is seeking a Practicum Observer to oversee and support students in ELC practicum settings. You will assess learning, monitor progress, complete weekly reports, and collaborate with staff on final evaluations of student performance.

This part-time contract role requires 5+ years in child care leadership, ECE III certification, and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends. In-person locations across Alberta are available, and the program supports a positive learning

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or in Child Care Management.
• ECE III certification required.
• Teaching experience and/or possession of an Instructor’s certificate is an asset.
• Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students and develop rapport with a diverse population.
• Confident, self-managing and highly organized.
• Adaptable to days, evenings and weekends.
• Multicultural sensitivity/awareness and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Google Apps.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and observe students in the Practicum setting to support a positive learning experience.
• Assess student learning and Practicum progress; provide constructive feedback.
• Support the Early Childhood Center with learning expectations and evaluations.
• Complete weekly progress reports on students.
• Facilitate practicum checklists and final evaluations with students.
• Document daily performance in computer-based systems.

Overview

Practicum Observers are responsible for overseeing and observing students in the Practicum setting. They are responsible for supporting a positive learning experience, assessing student learning, assessing the Practicum experience, and providing support to the Early Childhood Center around learning expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitoring, assisting, and mentoring students in ELC placements as required.
• Supporting and guiding students in a positive learning environment on duties and responsibilities of an ELC.
• Monitoring students’ skills on assigned tasks while out on practicum.
• Completing weekly reports on students and their progress.
• Providing feedback and assistance to students on positive or “need to work on” statements.
• Collaborating with the staff in completing a final evaluation on the student’s practical performance.
• Facilitating the filling out of practicum checklists.
• Reviewing final evaluations with each student.
• Documenting in computer based program daily & record daily performance of students

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or in Child Care Management.
• ECE III certification required.
• Teaching experience/and or possession of an Instructor’s certificate is an asset.
