Job summary

Sandvik Mining in Sudbury, ON seeks Licensed Workshop Technicians (Mechanic) to diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain Sandvik mining equipment and components. The role combines mechanical and electrical diagnostics and requires strong safety practices in a modern facility.

You will perform repairs, estimate parts and labour, document service reports, and stay current with product updates. The position offers daytime schedules, training opportunities, and pathways for career advancement within

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or equivalent in mechanical trades.
  • Valid Red Seal certification.
  • 3–5 years of related mechanical experience.
  • Experience with mining or heavy equipment.
  • Able to read hydraulic, electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Self-motivated with good time management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on Sandvik equipment and components.
  • Inspect equipment to identify faults and required repairs.
  • Repair or replace defective components following procedures and work scopes.
  • Provide parts and labour estimates to supervisors.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify performance and quality.
  • Complete service reports, failure analyses, and time records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and stay updated on product developments.
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians.

About The Role

The Workshop Technician is responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and maintenance of Sandvik mining equipment and components. This role involves both mechanical and electrical diagnostics and repair activities while working safely and efficiently to meet customer and operational requirements.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on Sandvik equipment and components.
  • Inspect equipment to identify faults, malfunctions, and required repairs.
  • Repair or replace defective components and systems according to established procedures and work scopes.
  • Identify additional repair requirements and provide parts and labour estimates to supervisors.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify operational performance and quality standards.
  • Complete accurate service reports, failure analyses, parts documentation, and time records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices within the workshop.
  • Stay current on product updates, technical developments, and industry trends.
  • Support and mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians.

What You Will Bring Along
  • Technical (Mechanical) diploma or equivalent trade-related education.
  • Valid Red Seal certification.
  • Three to five years of related mechanical experience.
  • Experience with mining equipment, heavy equipment, truck and coach, or automotive systems.
  • Previous experience with Sandvik equipment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
