Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking a Construction Safety Trainer to support and manage core safety training programs for the SMR-X project, coordinating with project teams to ensure compliance with training plans, client requirements and regulations.

The role requires experience in health and safety within construction, ability to lead training, and a commitment to continuous safety improvement across multiple shifts at the Darlington site in Ontario.

Qualifications

  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent in Training, Construction, and Health & Safety fields.
  • 5+ years Health and Safety and training/facilitating experience in construction acceptable as asset.
  • Train the Trainer qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Train project employees on safety programs including Work at Heights, Hoisting, First Aid, and related topics.
  • Provide feedback on employee competency and training effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver new training courses and programs with the training team.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and continuous improvement through communication and participation.
  • Support Human Performance program activities and occupational health and safety compliance.

Position Overview

The Construction Safety Trainer reports to the Training Manager and is responsible for supporting the development, delivery, evaluation, and on-going management of the training programs common to SMR-X project. The individual works with project teams to identify training needs, plan, coordinate and deliver the established core training programs as required by the Project Training Plan, onboarding and training department, project, client and legislative requirements.

Location

This position is located at our active project site in Darlington, Ontario. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work various shifts, including nights, days, and weekends, to meet project demands. Embracing a work schedule that supports continuous safety oversight is essential to this role's success.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for training project employees on a variety of project and Safety related programs such as, Work at Heights, Heavy Equipment Operation, Hoisting and Rigging, Confined Space Entry, First Aid, Elevating Work Platform, Forklift Operation, Human Performance, Supervisor etc. This training will include all relevant tracking and documentation required for each program
  • Provide timely feedback to management and supervisors in regard to employee competency as it relates to the training programs provided
  • Participate in training team meetings and training-related projects such as the development of new training courses and programs
  • Promote a positive safety culture that supports continuous improvement through active communication, participation and development of skills
  • Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including; inspections, audits, observation and coaching
  • Support Human Performance program activities and act as an advocate for Human Performance
  • Technical resource for jurisdictional Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and applicable standards
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Training, Construction, and Health and Safety fields
  • Experience in New Build Construction as asset
  • A working knowledge of Provincial OHS Legislation including construction and industrial regulations
  • Experience in facilitating or training large groups using adult education practices and principles (e.g., ADDIE, adult learning theory) an asset
  • Experience with Human Performance programs considered an asset.
  • Train the Trainer Qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Confined Space Entry. WHMIS, First Aid, etc., considered an asset
  • A designation such as NCSO would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety and training/facilitating within the construction industry is considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years in implementing and monitoring construction health and safety programs is considered an asset
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office to develop, adjust and manage training programs and develop reports or presentations as required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and positively influence behaviour
  • A team player that accepts and can manage change regularly
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders, if required
  • Comfortable working in various work locations in both field and office.

  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary

Base Compensation:$85,000/yr -$110,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
