Job summary

Aecon Concessions is seeking an EHS Advisor to promote a strong safety culture on our North Ontario project. You will implement site safety programs, conduct orientations, and coordinate required trainings while ensuring compliance with construction safety regulations.

The role focuses on deployments in an onsite setting with responsibilities spanning inspections, audits, and incident response. Strong communication and collaboration are essential to success.

Qualifications

• Must have previous experience in construction health and safety.
• Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
• Experience with project-based environments.

Responsibilities

• Promote health, safety and environmental culture at all levels.
• Conduct site safety orientations for workers, owners and clients.
• Train workers in fall protection, traffic management, WHMIS, and emergency procedures.
• Coordinate training such as UWPC, First Aid, Aerial Work Platform, and High Angle Rescue.
• Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
• Develop workplace safety plans and emergency responses.
• Distribute safety materials and equipment to the team.
• Deliver safety presentations to clients and promote safety systems.

Reporting to the Sr.EHS Advisor, the EHS Advisor will be responsible for actively promoting a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon's Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

This project entails the construction of utility grid scale 230/500 KV substations. Including major, civil, structural and electrical, substations, transmission and distribution

This role is based fully onsite in North Ontario (Mississaugi).

What You'll Do Here:

• Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
• Conduct Employee health and safety orientation and site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners, and clients
• Train employees in fall protection, , traffic management, traffic control person, WHMIS,emergency response, Regulation 22/04, Electrical Awareness.
• Coordinate training such as UWPC, First Aid, Aerial Work Platform, High Angle Rescue, etc.
• Conduct workplace inspections and audits
• Conduct behavioural observation in the workplace.
• Develop workplace plans - such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic control, fall protection.
• Distribution of safety material supplies and equipment as needed to team members.
• Conduct safety presentations to clients and promote Aecon safety systems to potential industry clients.
• Participate as a guest of the Joint Health and Safety Committees
• Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
• Inspect project facilities and recommends corrective actions, coordination of environmental issues.
• Assist with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
• Develop return to work and modified work programs.
• Mediate health and safety issues for resolution
• Prepare and assist with internal and external safety audits.

What You Bring to the Team:

• Must have previous experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
• Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects
• Experience with project-based environments.
• Strong knowledge of other Regulations, e.g., Electrical Utilities Safety Rules,
• Must have an NCSO designation.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
• Be a champion of inclusion and diversity
• Excellent verbal and written communication with strong relationship management skills
• Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
• Valid G driver’s license
