Job summary

Job description

Location: Bowmanville, ON, Canada.

Opportunity

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon will support the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site as part of the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, the EHS Advisor will actively promote a healthy and safe culture to all levels of employees within the organization to ensure compliance with regulations and safe work practices and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Support project‑specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including inspections, audits, observation, coaching, Worker Trades Committee and JHSC.
  • Train project staff in the requirements of conventional safety procedures.
  • Track and report safety‑related statistics, manage return‑to‑work and modified duties cases at the field level.
  • Support Human Performance program activities.
  • Assist in development of JSA, high‑hazard, critical lifting and handling forms and audit them in the field.
  • Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Conduct behavioural observation in the workplace.
  • Update material safety data sheets as required.
  • Develop workplace plans such as emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, fall protection.
  • Distribute safety material, supplies and equipment.
  • Deliver safety presentations to clients.
  • Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
  • Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate activities of site safety coordinators.
  • Assist the claims administrator with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
  • Develop return‑to‑work and modified work programs.
  • Mediating health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Liaise with government agencies.
  • Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
  • Coordinate environmental issues.
  • Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • CHSO or CRSP designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety within the nuclear construction industry.
  • Relevant post‑secondary education or equivalent experience in the health and safety field.
  • Team player who accepts and can manage change regularly.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractor safety performance.
  • Knowledge of emergency planning and hot work procedures.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders, if required.
  • Comfortable with different work locations and job sites.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
  • Champion of inclusion and diversity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Adaptability to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000 per year.
