Responsibilities
  1. Prepare patients for dental examinations
  2. Prepare plaster models and moulds
  3. Supervise dental assistants in their healthcare functions
  4. Order dental and office supplies
  5. Prepare dental instruments and filling materials
  6. Maintain and order supplies
  7. Perform reception and clerical duties
  8. Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment
  9. Educate patients about oral hygiene
  10. Polish teeth, apply fluoride and sealant
  11. Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays
  12. Schedule and confirm appointments
  13. Perform intra-oral duties
  14. Take and develop X-rays
  15. Record dental procedures
  16. Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts
Credentials
  • Membership in the Canadian Dental Assistants Association
  • Registration with provincial or territorial authorities
  • Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board
