Position: Lead Structural Engineer – Canada

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will join the Mining team based in the Sudbury or North Bay office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

1. Perform site visits to inspect and assess existing mining infrastructure.
2. Analyze and design steel structures and concrete foundations according to applicable codes and standards in mining and heavy industrial sectors.
3. Prepare sketches and collaborate with designers to produce detailed drawings.
4. Coordinate with clients and other disciplines to develop layout designs.
5. Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, and scope documents.
6. Contribute to technical memos and reports within your expertise.
7. Create detailed working drawings for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
8. Review junior staff’s technical work and mentor EITs and Junior Engineers.
9. Ensure projects are completed within scope, budget, and schedule.
10. Assist in proposal preparations.
11. Perform post-IFC services such as shop drawing reviews and field inspections.
12. Stamp documents and drawings as required and if registered.
13. Implement safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
14. Familiarize yourself with EXP standards.

What Your Experience Looks Like

1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration within the province is mandatory.
3. Minimum of 15+ years of project engineering, design, and construction experience in surface and underground mining.
4. Experience in underground mining design.
5. Experience in heavy industry design and construction.
6. Structural inspections and assessments experience.
7. Strong hands-on experience in the analysis and design of steel structures, reinforced concrete, and foundations in mining. Environmental structures are a plus.
8. Proficiency with NBC, OBC, and relevant codes; familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
9. Knowledge of mining processes is an asset.
10. Proficiency in STAAD.Pro for structural analysis and design.
11. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary BIM environment.
12. Strong computer skills (MS Office, MathCAD, etc.).
13. Organized, proactive, detail-oriented, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
14. Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
15. Experience with project procedures and workflows.
16. Team player with problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
