Director of Information Technology and Systems

Are you looking for a Northern adventure?

Our client is a highly respected organization dedicated to advocating Inuit rights and strengthening their community partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a long-term research initiative and collaborate with an organization that strives to enhance the health and well-being of Inuit people across Nunavut and Canada.

Position Overview :

The Director of Information Technology and Systems is responsible for the planning, cyber security, administration, and management of activities and operations related to the Information Technology and Systems Department. They will coordinate information activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies, directly advising the CEO and other senior managers on the implications of proposed actions and decisions taken by the IT and Systems Departments.

Responsibilities :

  • Planning : Participate in the formulation and implementation of long-term strategic development plans. Provide "early warnings" to senior management as appropriate. Make complex, sensitive decisions and sustain strong internal and external pressure under tight time frames.
  • Policy Development : Write, implement, and keep IT and Systems-related policies up to date. Ensure staff understand and adhere to IT policies.
  • Information Technology : Manage and support a large fleet of end-user technology components. Provide information systems support for network computer systems, servers, IP telephone systems, and other technologies. Manage technology partners to secure confidential data and manage cyber risks. Identify and recommend new technologies and services to improve efficiency. Plan and coordinate system upgrades, assessing costs and benefits. Oversee development and maintenance of user applications. Maintain and enhance network connectivity between offices. Keep website and mobile app updated and current. Plan and implement procedures for remote work.
  • Records Management : Develop and oversee maintenance of Records and Information Management System.
  • Partnerships : Develop strong working relationships with affiliates and government.
  • Human Resources : Provide direction and guidance to departmental staff. Ensure compliance with HR, governance, financial, and administrative policies. Participate in recruitment, interviews, and selection of staff. Conduct annual performance reviews and training needs assessments.
  • Financial : Develop the department's annual budget. Administer a budget of over $3 million. Monitor revenues and expenditures, providing explanations for variances. Prepare revisions to the budget for approval.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture and security.
  • Minimum five years' experience in information technology.
  • Minimum three to five years' experience in staff management and financial management.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Awareness of local, political, and cultural issues.
  • Understanding of community needs in Nunavut.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience.
  • Purchasing or procurement experience.
  • Proficiency in multiple software and technologies.
  • Experience working with outside suppliers.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Inuktitut / Innuinaqtun (or willingness to learn).

Location and Benefits :

  • Location preferred : Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, or Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Canada.
  • Annual salary range : $156,000 - $195,000.
  • Comprehensive benefits including pension plan, group insurance, and vacation travel assistance.
  • Annual Northern / Housing Allowance of $31,000.
  • Relocation assistance may be provided.
