Work setting
Tasks
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS), or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and emissions.
- Obtain necessary permits and documents for international cargo transport.
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
- Inspect vehicle condition, including tires, lights, brakes, and cold storage equipment.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee vehicle maintenance.
- Communicate with central dispatch regarding operations.
- Record cargo, hours of service, travel distance, and fuel consumption.
- Manage cargo security, including tarping and safety measures.
