Job summary

EEPF seeks a Sergeant to provide leadership and oversight under the Lieutenant, managing investigations and workload across a policing team. The role involves assigning, reviewing and closing files, mentoring Patrol Officers, and ensuring policy compliance and ethical conduct.

You will coordinate critical incidents, monitor operations, and support scheduling, leaves, and resource allocation, with a focus on safety and effective service delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–8 years experience as a Police Officer.
• Valid driver’s license (class 5) for motor vehicles; eligible for emergency vehicle license.
• No criminal record.

Core Functions:

Under the immediate supervision of the Lieutenant, the Sergeant provides essential oversight of operational files, assigning, reviewing and closing investigations. The Sergeant also manages team workloads, coordinates interventions and advances community policing objectives.

Functional Responsibilities

• Assign, review and close investigative files.
• Mentor and support Patrol Officers on procedures, best practices and professional conduct.
• Assess and monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, including assessing workload, administrative and support systems, and internal relationships.
• Monitor the implementation of operational activities; ensure that the Police Officers actions comply with legal requirements and professional ethics.
• Coordinate critical-incident responses and liaise with partner agencies.
• Assist in managing shift schedules, leave requests and resource allocation.
• Provide assistance to the Lieutenant with the orientation of new Patrol Officers by explaining the functioning of the office, procedures, roles and responsibilities, assigning tasks and acting as the main contact for employee questions.
• Ensure that all safety measures are taken; participate in various operations; oversee the use of equipment and vehicles; support staff in achieving all activities (approach to problem solving, etc.).

Administrative:

• Contribute to the implementation of EEPF policies and procedures.
• Review officers' reports for completeness, accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Conduct victim follow-ups and ensure timely case progress.
• Assist in managing the different leaves and vacations, according to the Collective Agreement.

Other Responsibilities:

• Perform other tasks assigned by the Lieutenant

Education

Experience

• 5 to 8 years of experience as a Police Officer.

Languages

• Fluency in Cree, French, and English (2 out of 3 minimum)

Knowledge and Abilities

• Knowledge of EEPF operations, methods, policies, procedures and practices.
• Ability to management policies, operational and administrative guidelines and procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and management skills.
• Demonstrates clear leadership capabilities and sets the example for others.
• Ability to evaluate/solve problems and to make decisions under stressful conditions or when clear and well-defined courses of action are not always readily apparent.
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment and initiative.
• Discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.

Additional Requirements

• Have no criminal record.
• Be in good standing with EEPF.
• Hold a valid driver's license for motor vehicles (class 5) and be eligible to obtain a driver's licence for an emergency vehicle.

The Cree Nation Government may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned requirements if a suitable candidate who is a JBNQA beneficiary accepts to follow a training plan determined by the Cree Nation Government as a condition of employment.
