Job summary

EEPF in Canada is seeking an experienced Investigator to lead investigations assigned by their Supervisor, including major accidents, violations or crimes within the communities' territory. You will collect, package and preserve evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and prepare progress and final reports for the Crown. A minimum of five years in a recognized police organization is required, plus training, language fluency in Cree, French and English, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Be a current member in good standing with the EEPF.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in a recognized police organization as police officer.
• Training: 285 hours investigator training.
• Language: Fluency in Cree, French, English (2 out of 3).
• Driver's license class 4A and eligibility for emergency vehicle license.

Responsibilities

• Intervene at crime scenes and collect, package, and transport clues and evidence.
• Interview complainants, witnesses and suspects; arrest and interrogate suspects as required.
• Prepare regular investigation progress reports for supervisor and submit for approval.
• Collaborate with other authorities on surveillance, transcription and research.

Status: Permanent

Core Functions:

As provided for in the Police Act, the I nvestigator is responsible for the investigations assigned to him by his Supervisor , such as the investigation in an event of a major accident, violation or crime on the assigned communities’ territory. The I nvestigator will use various types of equipment and techniques to develop, secure and package physical evidence from the crime scene. The I nvestigator will also meet, obtain facts or statement s from complainants, witnesses and accused persons, and proceed with the arrest and the interrogation of the suspects. The I nvestigator is responsible for producing a summar y of incidents , solving crime s and recommending judiciary action.

Intervene at the crime scene, validate the information gathered in the preliminary analyses and evaluate the means and resources required for the investigation.

Examine the crime scene to obtain, pack and transport clues and evidence .

Ensure the clues and evidence are properly protected, preserved and stored .

Observe, receive and obtain information from all relevant sources to perform a preliminary reconstruction of the event .

Analyze the information gathered at the crime scene to reconstruct the crime scene and link the individuals involved in the crime .

Determine scope, timing, and direction of investigation .

Validate relevant information obtained in the crime scene investigation .

List the individuals to meet for the investigation .

Schedule the meeting and the investigation .

Submit complete report to the supervisor .

Perform the investigation as planned .

Collaborate with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, transcription and research .

Meet witnesses, victims, complainants, representatives or other relevant persons .

Recruit and use informants .

Arrests, search, detain and interrogate suspects .

Develop a work plan for the investigation .

Submit work plan to the Supervisor for approval .

Enter, transcri be , record, store, or maintain written information for every parts of the investigation .

Prepare regular investigation’s progress reports .

Submit progress report to the Supervisor for approval .

If necessary, consult the Prosecutor .

Court Process Responsibilities:

Produce a report in a chronological and logical way .

Manage the exhibits .

Present the results of the investigation to the Crown P rosecutor .

Provide courtroom testimony .

Communication and External Responsibilities:

Develop efficient communication tools with internal, external and public collaborators .

Collaborate with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, transcription and research .

Exchange information and coordinate activities with partners .

Collaborate with local patrolmen to develop crime prevention strategies .

Other Responsibilities:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.

Perform other duties as required .

Qualifications:

Be a current member in good standing with the EEPF .

Experience

5 years of experience in a recognized police organization as police officer .

Good knowledge of the legislative framework, the investigative techniques and the regulations relative to documents and archives management .

Training

To be confirmed in his position, the candidate will have to successfully completed an investigator training of 285 hours .

Language :

Fluency in Cree, French, English (2 out of 3) .

Additional Requirements :

Hold a valid driver’s license for motor vehicles (class 4A) and be eligible to obtain a driver's license for an emergency vehicle .

Willingness to undergo a background check .

Willingness to travel occasionally .
