BHS Design Manager

Location – Toronto, ON

As an experienced Baggage Handling System Design Manager, you will be part of the GTAA team, working in GTAA offices five days a week.

You will apply your skills to various stages of airport baggage handling system construction projects, managing design, client interactions, and participating in project phases from information gathering to closeout, including defining user needs, creating design drawings, testing, and commissioning. You will oversee the design of solutions for baggage handling systems, covering mechanics, electricity, automation, control, computing, and networking for departing, connecting, and arriving baggage.

Your role within the team:
  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of multi-disciplinary design standards and collaborate with the main contractor.
  • Oversee pre-construction services, including planning, design phases, site development, permitting, and procurement support.
  • Act as the client interface at multiple levels, providing technical advice and guidance on design development.
  • Manage design consultancy agreements to meet technical specifications, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Facilitate design reviews, coordinate stakeholder input, and ensure effective communication.
  • Manage reviews by external stakeholders such as airlines, agencies, and authorities.
  • Provide progress and performance reports to management and executives, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Manage client review and approval processes at all design phases and facilitate project handovers.
  • Support delivery teams with technical assistance based on design knowledge and facility requirements.
  • Conduct quality reviews to ensure compliance with scope and requirements.
  • Mentor and support the career development of GTAA staff.

  • Degree in engineering or architecture; professional designation is an asset.
