As an experienced Baggage Handling System Design Manager, the candidate will be part of the GTAA team and be working in GTAA offices 5 days a week.
The candidate will have to apply his skills to the various stages of the airport baggage handling system construction projects.
He will actively manage the design, face the client and participate in the various phases of construction projects, from gathering information to the project close out, going through to defining user needs, concepts and design drawings, testing and commissioning. He will manage the design of solutions for baggage handling systems, including mechanics, electricity, automation and control, computing and networking; For departing, connecting and arriving baggage.
Your role within the team:
- Leads and coordinates the implementation of multi-disciplinary design standards and works collaboratively with the main contractor.
- Oversees pre-construction phase services, including planning, all design phases, site development, permitting, and procurement support.
- Serves as client interface at multiple levels and at all phases and provides technical advice, guidance and subject matter expertise with respect to design development.
- Manages design consultancy agreements to achieve the requirements of the contract in terms of technical specification, schedule, and cost.
- Facilitates design reviews and coordinate input and feedback from all stakeholders to ensure feedback is provided in an effective and efficient manner.
- Manages reviews by external stakeholder groups (airlines, agencies, authorities having jurisdiction).
- Provides Management and Executive level progress and performance reports, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
- Manages the client review/approval of the design at all phases and facilitates an effective handover between Development and Construction.
- Provides technical assistance and support to the delivery teams based on knowledge of the design phases and GTAA’s facilities requirements, by bringing the perspective of planning and design to the other phases of program/project construction delivery phases of the Program.
- Conduct and coordinate quality reviews to ensure compliance with program scope and requirements.
- Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff.

The ideal candidate:
- Typically, a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large capital programs in engineering / design management position with a focus on terminal renovation / improvement programs.
- Demonstrable experience using AutoCAD & Revit (MicroStation is an asset) /BIM/Civil 3D design software & Experience in Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrable experience in performing design reviews and facilitating design coordination activities.
- Good working knowledge of program development including scope finalization, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
- Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
- Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision-making.
- Recognized degree in engineering or architecture. Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
