Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Director of Quality Safety and Transformation and working collaboratively with the Site Leadership this position provides leadership in the development and delivery of clinical education and instruction based on adult education principles and philosophy, and by incorporating educational approaches as part of the education delivery. Applies nursing theory, advanced knowledge and leadership concepts, educational theories, and adult learning principles in providing clinical guidance and resource support to staff.

This position is responsible for promoting best practice through staff development and education thus ensuring optimal client outcomes. Assists the leadership in maintaining standards of care and in providing and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Provides guidance and support to staff and students in the application of the nursing process in the provision of client care and promoting culture of evidence-based practice and evidence-informed decision making.

One of the key responsibility of the educator is to meet the educational needs of the clinical staff in the organization. Responsible for other duties as required.

Program Summary

Complex Mental Health is a specialized mental health continuing care and post-acute program providing comprehensive care for adults with complex behavioral, cognitive, and mental health needs, including severe and persistent mental illness, dementia, acquired brain injury, and concurrent disorders. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the program delivers person centered care in a safe and therapeutic environment that supports quality of life, dignity, and meaningful engagement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s Degree in an applicable health related discipline an asset.
  • Registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
  • Certificate in Adult Education with adult education experience an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required for travel.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of fulltime clinical experience in the last 5 years in specialized Complex Mental Health. focusing in providing holistic, person-centered care to adults with complex and chronic mental health conditions and cognitive disorders. This role requires a solid understanding of the Mental Health Act, emphasizes trauma-informed care grounded in Harm Reduction principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, patients, families, leaders, learners, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to facilitate group discussions, foster engagement, and support effective teamwork.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify complex issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated teaching and facilitation skills in both small and large group settings, applying adult learning principles and best practices.
  • Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs and learning activities.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Connect Care.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred
  • Project management and change management knowledge and experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, implementing and leading change from an evidence-based perspective.
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
  • PROSCI Change Management certificate or Change management modules. Alberta Health Services Improvement Way (AIW) Green Belt certification and project management is an asset.
  • Specialty Canadian Nursing certification such as: Canadian Psychiatric and Mental Health, Canadian Gerontological Nursing certificate, Canadian Medical-Surgical nursing certificate.
