Job description

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT – ELEMENTARY SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS

Temporary position with the following schedule:

  • 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (6 hours per day) on July 3 and 4
  • 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily (4 hours per day) from July 7 to 25

Hourly rate: $24.85 - $30.30

The Simcoe County District School Board’s Special Education Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Educational Assistant for the elementary Summer Learning Programs (SLP). Reporting to the site supervisor, the successful candidate will support students in various programs, including the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Program (Grades 1-8), Enhance Your English (EYE) (Grades 4-8), Positive Peer Interaction (Grades 1-3), and Special Equipment Amount (SEA) (Grades 4-8).

Educational Assistants will be assigned based on student enrollment and needs. This year, the programs will include both in-person and online formats. All staff are expected to work in-person supporting students and educators at locations including West Bayfield Elementary (Barrie), Worsley Elementary (Wasaga Beach), and Regent Park (Orillia).

The anticipated schedule:

  • Training sessions on July 3 and 4, 2025
  • SLPs from July 7 to 25, 2025

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Two-year college diploma in a relevant human services field or related certification
  • Behavior Management Systems (BMS) certification (mandatory)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
  • Good planning, organizational, and technical skills
  • First Aid Certification (preferred)

Note: The program is subject to budget approval and enrollment. Hiring may continue up to the first day of the program.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time employees, even if currently receiving a pension.
