Educational Assistant - Long Term Assignment

Job Function:
- Assist in accessing instructional programs.
- Assist with the personal and hygienic care of students.
- Administer medication as assigned.
- Carry out therapeutic, behavioural management, or training programs.
- Assist with student activities and supervision.
- Collect relevant data to track student progress and behaviour.
Job Description:
- Assist in developing, implementing, and tracking instructional programs.
- Prepare instructional materials and equipment as directed.
- Assist students with hygienic and personal care such as toileting, catheterizing, and life skills.
- Administer medication following Board Policy and Regulations.
- Support occupational, physio, speech, and behavioural therapy programs as directed.
- Implement Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.), Co-op Education, job training, and safety programs.
- Supervise in-school and out-of-school student activities.
- Participate in I.P.R.C. meetings and case conferences when required.
- Assist with loading and unloading school buses or taxis and monitor as needed.
Job Requirements:
- O.S.S.D. plus two years of specialized training (e.g., Educational Assistant Program, Child Youth Worker, Autism Support Worker, or equivalent). Knowledge of strategies and experience supporting students required.
- Knowledge of Board policies such as Physical Intervention, Discipline, and Administration of Medication.
- Ability to operate audio-visual and office equipment (computers, Google Suite, projectors, photocopiers) and equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, etc.
- Physical ability to lift and position students and implement Behaviour Management Systems and physical intervention strategies.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and community agencies.
