Job description

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a temporary Educational Assistant in various schools.

Qualifications:

1. Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

Requirements:

1. Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
2. Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
3. Work collaboratively under the guidance of teacher, CST, and members of a multi-disciplinary team
4. Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc.) strategies to achieve required goals
5. Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
6. Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school-specific behaviour strategies
7. Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
8. Provide a high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
9. Work and play at the student’s physical level of their activities
10. Provide support in the use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
11. Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP), if required
12. Able to understand, implement, and support modified curriculum
13. Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
14. Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
15. Physical ability to lift and move students
16. Provide school-directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress-related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders, etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning, and speech & language-related disabilities may be encountered.
