Job summary

Urban Academy in New Westminster, BC, seeks an Education Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This CAIS-accredited, gender-inclusive JK–12 independent school invites you to join a collaborative, inquiry-based learning community.

As an Education Assistant, you will support classrooms and small groups, supervise playgrounds and transitions, and collaborate with teachers and the Student Services team to meet diverse student needs.

Qualifications

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• EA certificate.
• Trauma-informed approach to working with children.
• Experience in a school setting.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Flexibility to work across grades and disciplines.
• Experience using Google Suite for Education and assistive technologies.
• Current Safety Awareness & First Aid for Childhood Emergencies Certificate.
• Clear Criminal Records Check.
• ECE or ECEA certificate (preferred).

Urban Academy is currently inviting a dedicated, team-oriented Educational Assistant to join our support team in Junior School for the 2026-2027 school year.

As an Education Assistant, your responsibilities include:

Provide classroom support and small group instruction under the guidance of classroom teachers and Student Services team.
Provide playground and classroom supervision during breaks and transitions as well as other duties assigned by the Junior School Principal

Qualifications and requirements:

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada
• EA certificate
• Have an excellent rapport with children guided by trauma-informed practices
• Related experience working in a school setting
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Flexibility to work across a range of grades and disciplines
• Experience in using Google Suite for Education for documentation and communication, and assistive technologies to support students with accommodations
• Current Safety Awareness & First Aid for Childhood Emergencies Certificate
• Clear Criminal Records Check

Preferred qualifications, experiences, and dispositions:

• ECE or ECEA certificate

• Competitive compensation and annual salary ranging of $47,500 – $57,000, inclusive of vacation pay and commensurate with qualifications and years of experience
