Job summary

Government of Yukon seeks an Educational Assistant for Elijah Smith Elementary School in Whitehorse to support neurodiverse learners in an inclusive K–7 setting. The role focuses on student success, collaboration with teachers and families, and adherence to Yukon education standards.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Ability to work with children/students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of child development, learning differences and inclusive education practices in a K-Grade 7 setting.
  • Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and characteristics of effective interventions such as Applied Behaviour Analysis would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.

This role is ideal for an Educational Assistant who is committed to supporting neurodiverse learners, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be patient, creative, and passionate about helping individuals reach their fullest potential in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Elijah Smith Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 elementary school, located on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än council. We pride ourselves on integrating on the land learning and social-emotional learning into the curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
  • Experience working with youth;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector ; to be provide before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Standard First Aid ; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
  • Completion of the Education Assistant YG Learn course
