Job summary

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division seeks two temporary Education Assistants to support Grades 7-12 in Lethbridge. Positions run through June 25, 2027, under CUPE 1825.

Responsibilities include assisting students with complex needs, using augmentative communication, and maintaining confidentiality within a collaborative team. The role requires physical ability to engage with students and may involve personal care tasks.

Qualifications

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience with students with special programming needs.
• First Aid training; ASL is an asset; SIVA; augmentative communication; experience with students with multiple barriers.
• Confidentiality and ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Support students with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under supervision.
• Work with students who have complex sensory needs, challenging behaviours, and augmented communication.
• Assist with toileting and other personal care tasks as required.
• Meet the physical demands of engaging students in all educational activities.

Lethbridge Schools

We are looking to hire two temporary 28.0 hour per week Education Assistants to work with our complexity teams in Grades 7-12 in our Lethbridge Schools. These assignments are to commence as soon as possible and terminate June 25, 2027. These positions are covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement. Please quote g #4069043.

The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the complexity teacher, and the principal. This role may involve working with students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks. The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role in order to actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in achieving the common good for all students. Through collaborative team-based structure, the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both the daily and program supervisors.

Education

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.

Referred Experience

• At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.

Specialized Skills

• First Aid training;
• Knowing ASL is considered an asset;
• Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate;
• Training and experience with augmentative communication systems;
• Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.
