Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association | Make a Future - Careers in BC Education is seeking an Education Assistant 2 for a 17.5-hour schedule. Under the teacher’s direction, you’ll support students in academics and behavior, assist with health procedures, and help organize materials.

You will monitor students during breaks, contribute to field trips, and work with a multidisciplinary team to implement education plans.

Qualifications

• Grade twelve education required.
• Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues.
• One year of experience with children or youth with exceptional needs.
• Valid BC driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to manage child-specific behavior techniques.
• Ability to operate school equipment and devices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow IEPs and medications dispensing guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities

• Assists small groups and/or individual students per education plan.
• Monitors students during recess, lunch, and between classes.
• Performs general health procedures as needed.
• Administers medications as assigned by administrator.
• Supervises student movement to and from buses.
• Prepares instructional materials for lessons.
• Attends conferences with parents and others as directed.
• Observes and records student progress and behavior.
• Ensures safety and reports concerns to principal or designate.

Education

Grade twelve education

Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues

One year of related experience with children or youth with exceptional needs

Valid British Columbia driver’s license

Ability to perform child-specific behavior management techniques

Ability to operate school equipment

Effective written and verbal communication

Follow individualized education plans and medication dispensing
