Position Title: Educational Assistant

We are currently seeking a motivated, self-directed individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborator and team player, to join our Academic Team. Compensation and Benefits Package
- September 1, 2025 - June 19, 2026 (orientation August 25th and 26th)
- 32-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, with potential for more hours depending on school needs. (Please note that school breaks are unpaid: winter, spring, and summer)
- Opportunity to run or participate in After School Activities (ASA)
- $28.00 per hour plus 4% vacation entitlement
- 5 days sick time after 90 days of employment
- Lunch meal provided on campus as a taxable benefit
- Eligibility to enroll in Extended Health and Dental benefits after a 3-month probationary period
- On-the-job training and cross-training into other areas of the school
- Located 20 minutes from downtown Victoria
- Campus on a main bus route
Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting students, including tutoring individual students or small groups, facilitating communication, and preparing or modifying specialized teaching materials as required.
- Helping develop strategies to achieve academic, behavioral, and social goals, and monitoring student progress.
- Supporting students in developing self-advocacy skills to foster independence.
- Encouraging cooperation and influencing students to achieve social, academic, and behavioral goals.
- Providing behavior support, conflict resolution, anger management, non-violent behavioral interventions, and managing behavior/safety/crisis/emergency plans.
- Supervising recess, morning, noon hour, and/or after-school activities.
- Providing class coverage when teachers are away.
- Performing other duties to support the school as needed (e.g., homeroom coverage, front desk).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of the specific learning needs of students, including English Language Learners.
- Ability to develop rapport with students and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Willingness to learn and effectively use new technology.
- Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, flexibility, and good communication skills with all personnel levels.
- Proactive, patient, and trustworthy.
- Adaptability to changing deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective, respectful communication and confidentiality maintenance.
Education and Experience
- Certified Education Assistant program certificate or post-secondary courses in child or adolescent development, psychology, or behavior management; experience working with adolescents is an asset.
- Experience in a school setting, preferably middle school.
- Must complete and pass a Ministry Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
- Experience or training in addressing learning needs and conflict resolution.
- Strong written and oral English communication skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR C certification.
- Class 4 Driver's license is an asset.
