Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based at a world-class Horizon North camp facility, the position typically involves a 20 days on / 10 days off rotation, with 12-hour shifts. Transportation is provided from a designated pickup point.

The Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, including ordering ingredients, planning menus, assisting with food preparation and service, staff training, and ensuring compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment as a condition of employment.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, presenting, designing, and serving high-quality rotational menus
  • Supervising kitchen staff to ensure productivity and adherence to policies, health, safety, and quality standards
  • Training, developing, and mentoring employees
  • Ensuring all food preparation follows FOODSAFE and HACCP standards, and safety guidelines
  • Managing resources effectively and efficiently
  • Serving clients and staff professionally and courteously
  • Considering dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian needs in meal planning
  • Conducting bi-weekly inventory checks

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Journeyperson or hold an interprovincial Red Seal Certificate
  • SafeCheck advanced food safety or HACCP certification
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in hospitality/food service
  • At least 10 years’ experience as a Chef in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or remote lodges, with expertise in international and domestic cuisines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and GFS
  • Knowledge of menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control
  • Strong practical and theoretical skills in all kitchen areas: hot, cold, pastry, butchery, and banquets
  • Effective leadership, positive personality, and good listening skills
